UPDATE: Suspect in custody, children found safe

LEE COUNTY, Miss. (WCBI) -The Lee County Sheriff’s Office said one suspect is in custody after a kidnapping attempt.

The investigation began earlier Tuesday when a woman in the Shannon area reported that her biological father, 52-year-old Douglas Mills, drove from Kentucky to Mississippi and kidnapped her three children.

The woman said he broke into the home, pulled a gun, threatened her, and took the children.

She believed at the time that he might be taking them with him back to Kentucky.

Late Tuesday afternoon, the children were located. They are now safe.

Lee County Sheriff Jim Johnson identified three suspects in the case: 52-year-old Douglas Mills, Sheila Hood, and Vanessa Cox.
