Update: West Officer Terminated, Investigation Continues

WEST POINT, Miss. (WCBI) – A West Point police officer was terminated on Wednesday after news of an ongoing investigation at the department.

Multiple sources tell WCBI a state agency is investigating an officer and it could be linked to some missing money.

West Point Police Chief Avery Cook tells WCBI this investigation centers around only one officer, not the entire department, and it started earlier this month.

Cook says the state Attorney General’s office is conducting the investigation.

A spokesperson for the AG’s office tells WCBI they cannot confirm or deny the existence of an investigation.

West Point C.O.O. Randy Jones and Cook both declined to comment on the specifics of the investigation.

However, Jones did confirm to WCBI that Detective Shaun Keller was terminated late Wednesday afternoon by the board of selectmen “for misconduct.”

Jones says the vote came after a briefing on the situation by Chief Cook.

Jones could not confirm if the firing is a result of the AG’s investigation.

Keller has been with West Point PD since 2003.

This is a developing story and we will bring you more information as it becomes available.
