US Judge Extends Temporary Block On 15-Week Abortion Ban

JACKSON, Miss. (WCBI) – A federal Mississippi Judge extends a temporary block on the nation’s most restrictive abortion law

The extension means the newest abortion law is blocked until April 13th.

Back on March 19th, Governor Phil Bryant signed into the law banning abortions after 15 weeks.

The day after, a judge issued a temporary restraining order blocking the law for 10 days.

The added extension gives attorneys for the state’s only abortion clinic and the state more time to work on legal arguments.

The law and the responding lawsuit set up a confrontation sought by abortion opponents, who are hoping federal courts will ultimately prohibit abortions before a fetus is viable.

The current federal law does not.
