Utility pole toppled after car crash in Lowndes County

LOWNDES COUNTY, Miss. (WCBI) – A Columbus teen escapes serious injury after crashing into a light pole, knocking out power to surrounding homes and businesses.

The crash happened on Highway 12, near Sanders Mill Road, about 8am.

State troopers say Mason Studdard, 19, somehow drove off the road and hit the pole.

He was the only person in the Mercury he was driving.

A utility pole had to be repaired.

Traffic was stopped on the highway as crews made repairs to the lines.

Studdard had non life-threatening injuries.

The Mississippi Highway Patrol continues to investigate the accident.
