Valentine’s Day Means Hectic Rush For Flower Shops
COLUMBUS, Miss. (WCBI)- Valentine’s Day is here.
And people are purchasing gifts to make sure their loved ones feel special.
And of course, flowers are always the go to.
For flower shops, This is the time of year they look forward to, and it can also be the time of year they dread.
With the big rushes it’s a no brainier it’s their busiest time of the year, and it’s also considered to be their biggest revenue generator.
“It means a busy busy season is what it means,” florist Wanda Baldwin said.
So busy, that this holiday is considered to be.
“This would be our version of a bad Black Friday,” Baldwin said.
Baldwin is the manger at Noweta’s Green Thumb, and said with call ins, deliveries, and walkins, her store hasn’t had a let up.
“It’s been rough on the body,” she said. “For the last three days we’ve stayed here real late at night, we’ve been here to like 11 or 12 o’clock at night, coming in at 6 and 7 in the morning.”
And to help prepare for this hectic rush, Baldwin said the store started prepping one month in advance.
“We have extra staff that helps us for delivery, we’ve had like five vans running for the three day period and then we have extra design help and extra people on the telephones and everything,” Baldwin said.
But even with the craziness, Baldwin said she has seen customers gravitate to a different trend of go-to flowers this season.
“Mixed cut flowers, ladies always likes mixed cut flowers, the spring flowers, the hydrangeas, the orchids stuff like that, that’s the go to,” she said.
But, Baldwin said roses are still the number one seller.
“We’ve had probably 35 hundred red roses, and probably five thousand total roses and we’ve done very well, that’s how many we’ve ordered and just about sold,” Baldwin said.
Baldwin has been a manager at Noweta’s Flower Shop for 15 years, and said this year’s rush is was this busiest it has ever been.
