KOSCIUSKO, Miss. (WCBI) – The Veterans Home in Kosciusko has a new name.

As of Friday (7-12)  morning, that facility will be known as the Brigadier General Martha Jo Leslie Mississippi State Veterans Home.

General Leslie, a registered nurse, served in the National Guard Nurse Corps from 1959 until 1992.

She was one of the first 5 women admitted to the Mississippi National Guard.

She spent her long career working to insure that Mississippi veterans receive the best possible care at nursing homes throughout the state.

She says, ” I’m so honored and so appreciative and just humbled. It was my goal to help improve patient care that our veterans were receiving. That was my expertise, and I’ve reached that goal. ”

General Leslie added that she could not have achieved her goal without plenty of help from many good people.
