Victim identified from overturned truck in Clay County

CLAY COUNTY, Miss. (WCBI) – An Okolona man is killed after his pickup truck overturned into a creek in Clay County.

Clay County Coroner Alvin Carter identifies the victim as Rodney Griggs, 59.

Carter says Griggs was traveling eastbound along Smith Road in Prairie when he lost control of his 1985 Dodge pickup and slid off of a bridge into a creek.

Carter says it appears the accident initially happened Sunday afternoon.

The cause of the death is Fresh Water Drowning.

We spoke with a neighbor who saw the truck overturned and immediately sprung into action and called 911.

“I just seen the fella come in and I never seen him come out, that’s all I know, says neighbor Bobby Wilson, “until this morning when we seen him down here in the crate upside down. Just four wheels turned up and marks on the side of the bridge and that’s it that’s all we can see.”

Clay County Sheriff Eddie Scott says it appears the victim was alone in the vehicle.

The accident remains under investigation by the Clay County Sheriff’s Office and the coroners office.
