Video: 4-County Extreme Makeover

COLUMBUS, Miss.(WCBI) — When most people hear “extreme make over” The t.v. show usually comes to mind. But for Some Columbus residents those words take on a new meaning.

Save energy is the message today. 4-county electric power association is teaming up with several golden triangle companies in the to provide Columbus residents a better way of life.

Home owner and program participant Emma Jennings says,”it’s going to be better because I can come into a cool house.”

Thanks to 4-county’s extreme energy makeover pilot program, residents like Emma Jennings will have an efficient way to save energy.

“And through that Program we are helping her get a new heating and cooling system, weatherizing her house and hopefully our goal is to save her at least 25 percent energy use from here on out and hopefully make her life a little better with this new system.”says 4- County public relations representative Jon Turner.

The money comes from a nearly 4 million dollar TVA Grant.

Four County’s Jon Turner says spending the money provides a better quality of life.

“Because we’re going to take a 25,30,40 year old house and we’re going to make it much more energy efficient. Fix holes put in installation things like that so their quality of life is going to go up,” says Turner.

Turner cautions not every home in the 4 County area will qualify

“The house has to be stick built,it can’t be a mobile home, it has to be at least 20 years old and it has to be heated with primarily electricity and the water heater has to be electric and it has to be owned by the person who lives in it,”says Turner.

Jennings says she is thankful for 4-county and this program. She hopes it will benefit more people in the future.

“I just appreciate it and I hope a lot of people get something out OF this because the can like i’m doing. It will be a better quality of life for
me ,”says Jennings.
