SMITHVILLE and PEARL, Miss. (WCBI) — The road to graduation day has been an emotional one for the Class of 2014 at Smithville High School. When they were Freshman, their town was virtually destroyed by an EF5 tornado. Not only did they endure the destruction of their campus, but they also grieved with other families. 16 people died in that storm. Through it all class members say they have learned, grown, and bonded.

“We just became closer, because we had so much going on in our town, so we spent time in our town helping out, said Smithville senior, Macy McCain. “On the bright side, it brought everyone in the town, especially the Senior class, closer together. We were all working side by side to clean the whole place up.”

The Smithville Class of 2014 graduated Thursday night. The Smithville Seminoles are also this year’s 1A Baseball Champions.
