ACKERMAN, Miss. (WCBI) – An Ackerman dental clinic is offering dentistry services where it counts most….”from the heart”.

Today, walk in patients were treated free of charge. There was a long line early this morning at Mitchell Dental Clinic in Ackerman.

Bright and early professional volunteers joined doctors and dental hygienists who came to Mitchell Dental Clinic with their sleeves rolled up ready to handle the long line of patients outside and in the office. An office resembling traffic on Highway 45 in Columbus during rush hour or Grand Central Station.

“It definitely is, we are extremely busy today. Its one of our busiest days ever,” said Emily Williamson with the Mitchell Dental Clinic said.

Its become a yearly tradition. Every year they come with great expectation, especially those who cannot afford dental insurance, taking advantage of dental services at no cost.

“Winston County, Oktibbeha, Choctaw, just all over this area for sure,” said Williamson.

“You know its always good to help people out whether you get something in return or not. You don’t do it, you know to get something in return, but you do it out of the goodness of your heart and that’s what these people are doing,” said Attala County resident Kevin Page said.

And so they fill up every room at this dental clinic. Getting their teeth cleaned, filled, or, if needed, extracted. By 11 a.m. Friday professional volunteers had already seen about 145 patients.

“You know we have so many patients that are good to us and come and see us, and its just something we can give back to them. We love our patients and we love, you know that they love that they come and see us every day,” said Williamson.

Mitchell Dental Clinic is first clinic in Mississippi working with the National Organization offering dentistry from the heart. Over the past seven years Mitchell Dental has helped over 800 patients through the event.
