ACKERMAN, Miss. (WCBI) — While New Hampshire voters were at the polls for Tuesday’s presidential primary, Ackerman held its own election.

It was so Ward One residents could choose their new alderman.

Felecia Miller-Baber has been declared the unofficial winner with 37 votes. Alan Whittington had 16.

City Clerk Debbie Boley tells WCBI nine affidavits will be counted Wednesday morning.

Tuesday’s special election was held after John Shumaker resigned his seat for a spot on the Choctaw County Board of Supervisors.

Baber will be sworn in on March 1.
