WINSTON, LEE, and LOWNDES COUNTIES, Miss. (WCBI) — A week after tornadoes swept through cities and counties across the region, local governments are stepping up efforts to remove trees, furniture and building materials left in their wake. Lowndes supervisors today agreed to hire at least one outside company to handle debris removal from the five twisters that hit the county. Another company will be hired to monitor the work to make sure the county is reimbursed for its costs. They could be in place by next week. In the meantime, city and county crews are handling as much clean up and removal as they can.
