COLUMBUS, Miss. (WCBI)- The Columbus Air Force celebrated its 69th birthday this evening at the Trotter Convention Center in downtown Columbus.

More than four hundred Columbus Air Force men, women, and guests attended the Birthday Ball. Following dinner, a formal POW/MIA ceremony began the event.

The night concluded with a guest speaker. Retired Air Force Colonel Carlyle “Smitty” Harris spoke to the crowd.

Harris was a former F-105 pilot who was shot down over North Vietnam and spent his next eight years as a prisoner of war.
