AMORY, Miss. (WCBI) — Amory joins the ranks of North Mississippi towns considering tougher rules for apartment owners.

Aldermen have set a May 20 public hearing as one of the final steps to approve minimum standards for rental properties.

The standards cover heating and air units, building sturdiness, utilities and landscaping.

Landlords will be given specific lists of the rules and the city will provide a list of landlords to potential renters.

Tupelo has had similar regulations on the books for four years and New Albany, Louisville and Columbus all have considered them.

Providing a landlord list may divulge Privacy Act issues. I want to request a FOIA request to the City for providing a letter from the Chief of Police to a Justice Court Judge for a free pass for someone to steal a shed from an estate property in the City of Amory.
