STARKVILLE, Miss.(WCBI) – According to Red Cross volunteers, 22 people were displaced during last night’s fire.

The Tupelo Red Cross branch is building comfort kits that will include all the basic toiletries.

Volunteers say when disasters like this strike, people need relief fast.

“Most people were awaken in the middle of the night and had to immediately evacuate and leave everything behind. What ever they were wearing when they left the building that’s all they had. We’re here to make sure they have shoes an clothes and a basic toiletry kit and we’ll provide some direct cash assistance to help them get through the next couple days,”said Red Cross Volunteer Glinda Swentkofske.

The comfort kits were scheduled to arrive at the Avalon Apartments Friday afternoon.
