VIDEO: Athletes Travel To Columbus For Annual Triathlon

COLUMBUS, Miss. (WCBI) – Before most of us were up this morning, almost 200 athletes had already begun competing in an annual display of speed and agility.

They came from six states across the southeast. Athletes swam 600 yards, biked 17 miles, and ran 3.3 miles.

They participated in the annual Possum Town Triathlon.

The start time for the event was 7:00 am Saturday morning.

George Tiewater of Philadelphia, Mississippi says it’s all about setting goals.

“Why do I do something like this? Just to get away, to get out, stay in shape. It gives you a goal to shoot for,” Tiewater adds.

Coming up Sunday at WCBI News at 9:00 and 10:00 pm, David Caroll shows us exactly what it takes to be a triathlete.
