TUPELO, Miss. (WCBI) — A massive auction is helping to clear out a Tupelo apartment complex that will soon be demolished.

The city purchased Azalea Gardens complex on Ida Street for more than $2 million back in March after several years of financial struggle, including bankruptcy.

Christian auction company conducted the liquidation effort of everything still left in the units.

“Whatever the contents are, whether it be stoves, refrigerators, kitchen cabinets, windows, the doors, you can take anything in that unit that you can buy,” said Brenda Christian, Christian Auction. “We are selling the railings over here and the stair cases. They remove those seven days after the people that buy the apartments get their merchandise.”

All the proceeds from Saturday’s auction go to the city of  Tupelo.

The city will demolish the property sometime in the next few months.

The city is considering several options for the land, including single family homes, and even green space.
