Video: Barnes & Noble Comes To MUW

COLUMBUS, Miss. (WCBI) – A popular bookstore chain is headed to another local college campus. Barnes and Noble is slowly but surely setting up shop at Mississippi University for Women.

It’s true, Barnes and Noble is coming to MUW. The national chain will be housed in the previous campus bookstore location. The transition should be finished up over the Summer.

“The Barnes and Nobles name has a certain national following being a large corporation and that our desire is that that name will help bring in foot traffic to this area,” said Dave Haffly, Director of Out Source Enterprises at MUW.

That foot traffic should include graduates and local folks. By offering new merchandise, the retailer plans to attract a larger portion of the student body.

“It’s definitely going to be a new atmosphere change for the campus, it’s nice to have something name brand around here. I feel like some of our clothing selections have changed a lot and we have maybe some better looking clothing for our students and better food selection and even some better book selections,” said student Timothy Mbogo.

The hope is that the new store will enhance the entire campus experience.

“The area involved here has improved marketing just with the transition over spring break which should make it a more pleasurable, desirable area,” added Haffly.

The internet age has made students savvy shoppers, but many are already familiar with the Barnes and Noble brand.

“I’d know that I wasn’t just getting a random price from another company, I could actually look online and see what the average is verse just buying a book at the price they sell it for,” said student Aaron Pruitt.

Many believe the new developments will be a great addition to MUW and the city of Columbus.

Barnes and Noble is also on campus at Mississippi State.
