STARKVILLE, Miss. (WCBI) – The Starkville Police Department is getting a makeover.

The Board of Alderman voted 5-2 to issue $2.4 million dollars in bonds to help fund the project. The city has already issued $3 million in bonds for the project.

The police department has been pushing for a new place to call home for around 20 years.

The police department is housed in the old Starkville City Hall.

City leaders say they will have to implement a one mill tax increase for residents but it will end once the project is funded.

Starkville Police Chief Frank Nichols says he is ready to see the project come to life.
“It’s just time for a building these brave men and women who put this uniform on everyday can be proud of. Not only that, for the city to be proud of,” said Chief Nichols.

The renovations are slated to be complete in April 2017.
