JACKSON, Miss. (WCBI) — Mississippi lawmakers have a lot they want to get done this session, but they realistically can’t get to everything.

With an even more limited budget this year, legislators say they’ll have to prioritize issues.

Most of them WCBI spoke with agree road improvements and education are high on the list, but they need to take on the budget first.

“We got the revenue estimates Monday, and they’re down for the year, which is not terribly unusual, but it’s not a good way to start the year,” said Rep. Jeff Smith, (R) District 39.

“It’s going to be a tough budget year,” said Rep. Rob Roberson, (R) District 43. “We don’t have millions and millions of dollars over and above what we actually need, so it’s going to be a tight session.”

Roberson says whatever issues they don’t cover this session, they’ll focus on next year.
