CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va. (WCBI) – Hundreds of fans showed up in Charlottesville Virginia to watch the Bulldogs compete in the college baseball Super Regionals. Charlottesville is about 2 hours south of Washington D.C., and it’s also the city our sports reporter, Tommy Lopez, calls home.

Just like Mississippi State in relation to Starkville – the University of Virginia is the centerpiece of the city. Thomas Jefferson designed UVa in the early 19th century. The Rotunda is a large grassy area that Jefferson considered his greatest architectural achievement. Along with James Madison and James Monroe, Jefferson is from Charlottesville. It was once a critical part of Jefferson’s design. Now, it’s a place for students to relax.

One center of social life in town is “The Corner.” Restaurants and shopping… it’s a hot spot for locals and students. Bodos Bagels is also a great place to eat.

Charlottesville’s historic district includes the downtown outdoor mall with a lot of history. Luis and Clark, Tina Fey, and Katie Couric, are all from Charlottesville. Dave Matthews got his start here and actually bartended here at Miller’s when he was getting started.
