Video: Buster Griffin Has The Stallions Poised For Another Playoff Run

MILLPORT, Ala. (WCBI) – Griffin continues to make his mark as a Stallion on the field.

The South Lamar Stallions are on a four game win streak since their last loss back in week 2.

Buster griffin is a big part of the team’s success this season.

“It’s been good,” said student athlete Buster Griffin. “We really should be undefeated, but we bounced back after a loss and we bonded together as a team instead of separating. We are brothers all out here. We all go to war together. We did it this summer. We made it again this summer to get us to the championship and try to win it.”

Griffin and the Stallions are riding high after their huge road win over 5-a school Curry. Now Griffin says they plan to carry this momentum over into division play.

“It felt good to beat them,” Griffin said. “My teammates stepped up big time. We stepped big time on offense and big time on defense. Mostly defense, but it felt good to get a win like that. It helped us build up a lot of momentum going into our future region games this week and next week.”

“It was a great win for us,” said head coach Clay Gilliam. “We know going in it was probably going to be the most physical team we played all year. I thought our kids handled it very well.”

Griffin has matured since his sophomore campaign with the junior becoming a team leader.  Coach Gilliam knows what he can expect day in and day out from his Stallion leader.

“He’s a great kid,” Gilliam said. “He brings a lot to the table for us. A great athlete, and he does a lot of great things for us. He can run the football for us and he also has great hands as well.”

Griffin was apart of the basketball team which finished as state runners up. The football team has never made it to the state championship game, but Griffin says he sees similarities between the two.

“The thing that was different from basketball to football, last year we were closer as a team during basketball, and we didn’t let our losses get us down,” Griffin said. “This year I feel like it’s the same football team this year. We are a lot closer as a team this year, and we bond together a lot better.”

The Stallions will look for a fifth straight win this Friday when Marion County comes to town.
