CALHOUN CITY, Miss. (WCBI)–Calhoun City honors their service men and women Monday with an annual Memorial Day Service.

The community gathered together at the center square to pay tribute to those who have served or who are serving in the United States military.

After singing the National Anthem and guest speakers, a wreath was placed on the veteran’s monument for all those that have lost their lives.

One veteran says paying tribute to the fallen is the least we can do on this special day.

“It means a lot to me to be home. I lost so many guys that I know in the Navy and it means a lot to remember them,” says Rupert Lunceford.

The Calhoun City 858th Mississippi National Guardsmen and women with the Horizontal Construction Company is expected to return from Afghanistan by the end of summer.
