VIDEO: The City Of Oxford Under New Leadership

OXFORD, Miss.(WCBI)—It’s official! Most of the areas throughout the state have sworn their new local leadership into office.

Among them is Robyn Tannehill. She is officially the mayor for the City of Oxford.

 

“Over the past couple of years, I realize there were a whole lot of things I wanted to change, that I had to be in this seat to change them,”said Tannehill.

Robyn Tannehill was sworn in on June 29th, She ran unopposed and Tannehill says that allowed her to hit the ground running for her first day on the job.

“Of course a lot of the issues we have in Oxford surround our enormous growth. We’ve been working on vision 2037 which is our long range plan for development.  We are looking at the first draft of our land use map and land development code,” said Tannehill.

The Florence Alabama native is the second women to hold the Oxford mayor seat.

” It’s an honor to serve as the mayor for the city. My parents told me growing up, I could be anything that I wanted to be. I was crazy enough to believe them.
I never felt like being a female was anything but a plus. I feel as women, we’ve become adopt to balancing various responsibilities and roles,”  said Tannehill.

She says it’s her involvement with the community that prepared her for her role now.

” I was the director for the Oxford Tourism Council in 1995. From there I owned an advertising agency. Then I transitioned to being a full time mom and volunteer. I was president of the Chamber of Commerce, numerous P.T.As, I chaired our 30 million dollar bond referendum that resulted in building our new high school, those kinds of thinks prepare your for this job,” said Tannehill.

Tannehill served as an alderman for four year before becoming mayor.
