VIDEO: The Columbus Forensic Staff Is Looking To Double Its Staff

COLUMBUS, Miss. (WCBI)-The Columbus Forensic Lab is looking to hire two new workers to help strengthen its staff.

The department has two openings, one for its criminal section, and another one for its chemistry section.

Requirements to work in the criminal section include, having a four-year degree from an accredited institution in a science related field.

In order to work in the chemistry section, employees must have a four-year science degree in chemistry, forensic chemistry, or have 24 hours of chemistry.

The department currently has only two workers, but with the chance to double their staff, workers believe it’s a win-win situation for both the crime lab and the city of Columbus.

“We’re basically doubling the manpower so we can accommodate more agencies, have more hands on a crime scene, and be able to handle more cases effectively and efficiently with the extra help,” said Claudette Gilmen, a forensic Chemist at the Columbus Forensic Lab.

The deadline to apply is on October 16th.
