Video: Columbus Group Earns Excellent in Community Involvement Award

COLUMBUS, Miss. (WCBI) — A Columbus community group that has been fighting for its neighborhood for years earns national recognition.

The Memphis Town Community Advisory Group has received the Excellence in Community Involvement Award from the Environmental Protection Agency.

The Columbus group has worked for years to get the former Kerr McGee Superfund site and surrounding neighborhoods on Columbus Northside cleaned up and made safe for residents. The group has held monthly community meetings to provide updates and input, hired consultants and gotten grants. Almost $70 million from a trust fund recently was designated for cleanup and the group has been involved in trying to plan how best to use that money.
