Video: Columbus Police Overview Committee Meeting

COLUMBUS, Miss. (WCBI)- The Columbus Police Department Overview Committee held their second ever meeting this morning.

The committee was created following the shooting of Ricky Ball that took place in October of 2015.

It is made up of members of the community and local law enforcement as a way to bridge the gap between the two.

This way the community can voice any concerns or recommendations and law enforcement can hear first hand.

Steven James, is the chairman of the committee and he says he’s very happy with the progress they’ve made thus far.

“I’m personally excited about the committee, I think we’re moving in the right direction. We had some really good suggestions today. You know our job as the committee is not to dictate to the police department and tell them what to do but it’s simply to be just a bridge between the police department and the community.” said James.
