Video: Concerned Pastors and Leaders Hold Rally in Tupelo

TUPELO, Miss. (WCBI) – Hundreds of Tupelo residents gathered Tuesday night to demand justice for Antwun “Ronnie” Shumpert.

The Temple of Compassion and Deliverance was packed for the Rally for Justice Tupelo.

The Coalition of Concerned Pastors and Leaders is demanding the creation of a Citizens Review Board to monitor the Tupelo Police Department in the wake of the shooting of Shumpert by police.

“We want to make sure that we have community oriented policing. We want to make sure that we have a civilian police review board and we want to make sure that the officers involved in the Antwan Shumpert killing are dealt with properly. And the other thing it is we just wanted to make sure that the people know that we are here for the long haul. There has got to be a sustained effort. People have to stay together and we’re going to be here for awhile.”

The CCPL is also demanding the immediate removal of the Mississippi State flag from public buildings in Tupelo.

They will hold a rally on Friday at noon where they intend to walk around City Hall seven times.
