Video: Contour Airlines Takes Flight From Tupelo To Nashville

TUPELO, Miss. (WCBI) – It’s an exciting time in Tupelo.

The city now has a flight service in and out of the Tupelo Regional Airport.

Tuesday marks the first day for Contour Airlines to take flight from Tupelo.

9 passengers can board the Jetstream 31 Aircraft, which flies to and from Nashville.

“We’ve sold over 1,000 tickets already, which is in two weeks more than the previous carrier serving this market in an entire month,” said Contour Airlines CEO Matt Chaifetz.

For the first month, passengers can get a one way ticket to Nashville for $18.99.

Chaifetz says he knows there are some obstacles to overcome but he is confident in choosing Tupelo to serve.

“We know that there has been reliability issues in this market historically and CFM has been in business for 34 years and reliability is something we do really well. We operate many government services, contracts, we operate corporate shuttles for Fortune 100 Companies. So we are determined to prove to the community we’re different,” said Chaifetz.

There will be five daily flights.

Chaifetz says they chose to service Tupelo for several reasons.

“Operationally, this was very easy for us to facilitate. And we think that Tupelo, given it’s history of unreliable service would respond very well to a company like CFM, who does reliability really well. And so far, that’s proven to be the case. The community has offered tremendous support,” added Chaifetz.

A number of city leaders gathered for the ribbon cutting to celebrate the day.

“It’s a huge need and this is something we’ve been working on since our administration started. The council has been 100% supportive of the airport, the airport board and now we’re excited to have this service back,” said Tupelo Mayor Jason Shelton.

The introductory flight price runs through April 30th, for flights booked through September.
