VIDEO: Council Takes Up Restaurant Tax

COLUMBUS, Miss. (WCBI)- Columbus City Council took up the 2% restaurant tax that expires in July of next year at Tuesday night’s city council meeting.

 

The current proposal would give the Golden Triangle Development LINK $250,000.

City leaders made adjustments to the Columbus Visitor Bureau’s proposal adding that the city would get 20% of the proceeds from recreation and $100,000 a year from the new amphitheater being built.

The city also wants to change the make-up of the CVB board, going from 9 members down to a 7 member board, with the council getting to choose 5 of those 7.

Tuesday’s vote was unanimous and the city plans to discuss the proposal with county leaders.
