GOLDEN TRIANGLE, Miss. (WCBI) – You see Crime Stoppers stories right here on WCBI all the time.

People are wanted by law enforcement and they need some information that could lead to an arrest.

The tipster could also get up to $1,000 for what they know.

Golden Triangle Crime Stoppers started more than 20 years ago.

And some big arrests have been made from information that’s given to investigations, in fact 1,000 and nearly $300,000 dollars in tip money.

Now, law enforcement want to make sure you know there’s still a way to help them solve crimes.

Who was there, what did you see and why are just a few questions often asked immediately after a crime.

Law enforcement need that information to quickly solve a crime.

“We depend on the community for feedback. A lot of the crimes that are solved are solved not because of just good investigation by the police, it’s the community,” said Macon Police Chief, Lucious Mason.

Law enforcement say one reason the program stays successful is because callers will remain anonymous.

“When individuals call, we are not asking for their name or information. These individuals are given a code number and once the arrest is made resulting from the tip, they are told where to go to pick up their money from,” said Clay County Sheriff, Eddie Scott.

Sheriff Eddie Scott is the president of the Golden Triangle Crime Stoppers. Time and time again he’s seen dangerous people taken off the street based on information from a tipster, making the community safer.

He says three people were arrested in Lowndes County recently after a tip was called in to Crime Stoppers.

“One of these was an armed robbery and another was an identity theft and so again, that was three good arrests for the Lowndes County area,” said Sheriff Scott.

Law enforcement from the area meet once a month to share notes, see if any cases are connected, and see if they can lend a helping hand.

Macon Police Chief Lucious Mason says it’s a good way to build working relationships.

“And that’s what this Crime Stoppers does too, we are able to network and share information, what crimes we’re having in our neighborhood, what crime your having in your town,” added Chief Mason.

There are more than 1,200 Crime Stoppers Programs around the world, which had led to nearly $8 billion dollars worth of stolen property to be recovered.
