VIDEO: Disney Artist Hosts Storytime

STARKVILLE, Miss. (WCBI)- An area star shared his talents with the children of Starkville this afternoon.

Andy Harkness is a Starkville native who went off to become a children’s book author and an art director for Disney.

He recently wrote and illustrated his first book last year, entitled Bug Zoo.

Harkness signed copies of his book and then played the role of storyteller to children of all ages who attended.

He says he stumbled upon art after he says he failed at everything else.

“I’ve always loved art, and its the only thing that I like to compete in. I love the competition of being an artist but I’ve never been good at competing in anything else, I’ve been a poor loser at everything else. You know, basketball, soccer- but art, I love to be pushed and I think that was a real sign for me early on and from second grade on, that’s all I’ve wanted to do,” says Harkness.

Harkness’ latest job was as the Art Director for Disney animated movie Moana.
