VIDEO: The Future of Oktibbeha County Industry Rests on This Meeting

STARKVILLE, Miss. (WCBI) – The immediate future of industry in Oktibbeha County will be discussed Thursday when city and county leaders discuss a proposed industrial park.

Oktibbeha County Supervisors and Starkville Aldermen, along with representatives from the LINK will share information about the next steps for the 380 acre site.

Both boards have approved funding for the project.

The Starkville Board of Alderman voted earlier this year to re-zone the land of land just north of Highway 82, along Highway 389.

That landed the proposal in Circuit Court, where Judge Jim Kitchens upheld the rezoning decision.

Prepping the land for long-term tenants is estimated to run around $14 million.

While some neighbors are opposed to the project, Board of Supervisors President, Orlando Trainer, believes this is vital to the infrastructure of the county.

“I think we are at a junction to now it is a defining moment for Starkville and Oktibbeha county as it relates to Oktibbeha County. It is up to us to move this thing forward. If we decide to delay and don’t do anything, it could be detrimental,” said Trainer.

The meeting is open to the public.

It begins tomorrow night at 6 p.m.
