TUPELO, Miss. (WCBI) — A Christian missions group is gearing up for its annual conference. For more than 4 decades, Global Outreach has sent missionaries around the world and now, the Tupelo based ministry has a new man at the helm.

For the past four months, Steadman Harrison has been settling into his new role at Global Outreach.

“They call me CEO, but I actually prefer Mission Director,” Harrison said.

He is no stranger to Global Outreach International. Harrison and his family served on the mission field in Ethiopia through Global Outreach. He went as a marketplace missionary.

“I went as a solo consultant in leadership development to Ethiopia and it was a place maybe open to Christianity , I could have gone as a long term career missionary, but in this case was able to start an office, started a for profit and by the time we closed that work was able to employ about 20 employees,” he said.

Harrison is looking forward to using his experience on the mission field and his knowledge of leadership development and the marketplace mindset in his
new role at Global Outreach.

“There’s some creative missions approaches out there, we have people doing things like art galleries, in foreign countries, Italian restaurants in some of those undisclosed locations, places like China as an example,” Harrison said.

Those creative approaches will be on the agenda during the ministry’s annual conference. The theme is “Leading the Modern Mission Movement.”

“If we rolled back the clock 100 years missions looked very different, today it is a flatter world, people are much more connected, so we want to be able to talk more about the modern mission movement will look like, stay at the cutting edge of that,” he said.

Right now, Global Outreach has 250 missionary units in 44 countries worldwide. Missionaries raise their own support. It takes about $15 million to finance all the work, and Harrison hopes to grow the ministry’s reach and numbers in the coming years.

The mission conference takes place at Tupelo’s Hope Church . It all starts Friday. For more information, go to
