Northeast Mississippi (WCBI) — Declining use and service at airports in Tupelo, Meridian and Jackson are contributing to continued passenger growth at Golden Triangle Regional Airport.

Golden Triangle saw a 6 point 5 percent increase last year, not including growth in charters. Of the state’s eight airports, Golden Triangle was the only one to see an increase. In fact, it’s seen higher numbers for six straight years. Meanwhile, continued problems with Silver Airways have driven passenger numbers down to their lowest levels in 28 years at Tupelo Regional. Without some changes, Tupelo could find itself without a carrier by this time next year. And Southwest Airlines is pulling out of Jackson. That leaves Golden Triangle as the best flight option for many passengers in the region.
