VIDEO: A Grieving Mother Opens Up About The Tragic Loss Of Her Daughter
WINSTON COUNTY, Miss. (WCBI)-The investigation into the shooting death of 39-year old Angela Collier, takes a step forward.
A judge has indicted Kevin Ladexter Carter, who will now stand trial for the murder of the Winston County woman.
“He just took her from us too soon and it wasn’t her time to go,” said Ida Shoemaker, the victim’s mother.
The grieving mother is still on an emotional roller coaster after her daughter was tragically shot and killed inside a mobile home in Winston County nearly two months ago.
“It’s been bad for all of us,” said Shoemaker. “We just still can’t believe that she’s gone. It’s hard to accept that she’s gone and we’ll never see her again.”
Carter, the accused gunman, and Collier were in a relationship together for over a year.
“He been abusing her abusing her for a whole year, ever since they became together,” the mother recalled.
Family members said they begged Collier to leave the relationship in fear that something like tragic this might happen.
“She went to the police several times, pressed charges on him, they didn’t done nothing,” said Shoemaker. “I just couldn’t understand why she stayed in that kind of abusive relationship with him.”
Carter made a court appearance Monday afternoon where he was bound over to the grand jury.
Shoemaker said that’s just the first step towards the family getting closure.
“He know my daughter didn’t deserve that, what he did to her,” Shoemaker expressed. “He know that she did not deserve that. So I hope he get his punishment for the rest of his life. I want him to think about it every time he close his eyes, oh I want him to see her face for what he did to her. It wasn’t called for, for him to do her like that.”
Family members said they don’t know if they’ll ever be able to get over this senseless tragedy.
They try to think of the good times they shared with collier to help get them through this tough time.
“We just try to talk about her, and the good things she brought in our lives,” said Shoemaker. “She brought joy and she was always smiling. Everything she said, she had a smile on her face. She was a loving person. She was the best person to get along with. Everyday she had that beautiful smile on her face.”
Collier leaves behind two children and two grandchildren.
She would have turned 40 next month.
