VIDEO: Habitat For Humanity Home Dedication

COLUMBUS, Miss. (WCBI) – One Family has something extra to be thankful for tonight, November 16, after officially getting keys to their brand new home.

Habitat for Humanity dedicated the home in Columbus This evening.

The new owner, left speechless.

Big smiles and a lot of hugs are going around for Dell Jackson, who fought back tears as she held the keys to her new home.

“Words cannot describe this. It’s just overwhelming. I’m overwhelmed,” says home-owner Dell Jackson.

Right before Thanksgiving, she and her two kids are finally moving in.

“I get the chance to have my entire family here with me celebrating the holidays,” says Jackson.

The beautiful home sits on Brown Street in Columbus. Volunteers have been working since May and still remembers getting the letter that’s made her dreams of owning a home come true.”

“I was getting out of the car hollering and my daughter, she said, ‘mama what’s wrong what’s wrong?’ I said, ‘we got approved for the habitat home.’ And to see her face smiling, it’s just joyful,” says Jackson.

Habitat for Humanity Executive Director Kathy Arinder says without the volunteers, finishing in time for the holiday’s wouldn’t have been possible.

“We’ve had the best volunteers ever to come out and help us to get it ready,” says Arinder.

Making everything more special, Jackson’s mom gave the dedication prayer.

“I love my mommy. I wish everybody else would. I’m so grateful for her,” says Jackson.

With the holidays upon us, Jackson says she knows exactly what she’s going to do.

“I guess this year I’ll put up a tree. I usually don’t put up one,” says Jackson.

This is the 46th home to be built in Lowndes County by Habitat for Humanity.

They hope to start another one soon after the new year.
