Video: Historic Commission O.K.’s Building Demolition

COLUMBUS, Miss. (WCBI) – The building can come down.

Demolition can resume on the old Waters Building on Second Avenue North.

The Columbus Historic Preservation Commission has given the go-ahead.

Lowndes County Administrator Ralph Billingsley says the county did not consult with the Columbus Historic Preservation Commission before starting work to take down the building.

The building itself is not historical but is in the city’s Historic District. That’s why the commission had to approve the demolition.

Plans are to make the area a parking lot.
