Video: Hit And Run Victim’s Family Speaks Out
STARKVILLE, Miss. (WCBI) – A tragic death, not knowing what happened, or why it happened. It’s a family’s worst nightmare. The family of hit and run victim, Barcus Evans, speaks to WCBI for the first time since the horrific tragedy.
Macon Police continue to investigate the brutal case of the 31-year old Starkville man, while his family looks for answers.
“Who could have that kind of heart? That’s what I’m saying, but you know, I hope like I said, we’re just going to pray and continue to pray. Something is going to give you know, we’re not going to give up,” says Evans’s aunt, Betty Douse.
Douse’s phone rang at 6 a.m. last Sunday morning while she was getting ready for church. It’s a call that still haunts her.
“Just left him laying there, you know, is just the part that really, really hurt me, and then when I go to talking about it, I just get you know, it kind of just hurts, so you know, I’m just saying like I said, I’m sorry this happened, and I wish it hadn’t happened because I just had saw him like that morning, that Saturday morning.”
The young father worked hard for his 12-year old twin girls, and 11-year old son. His aunt says the Mississippi State University Bulldog fan was an all around good person.
“He was a nice person, and he always was a person that tries to help everyone, you know, like he would come through here, and he would cut people’s yards, he would just, anything he could do, he would do it.”
Douse doesn’t know who called police to help her nephew, but someday hopes to meet them.
“After everything is over with, we’re probably just going to contact them, and thank them for doing that because they didn’t have to do it, but we still have some good Christian people in the world.”
If anyone has any information you can call the Macon or Starkville Police Departments.
The funeral for Barcus Evans will be this Wednesday.
