Video: House Fire Claims Kosciusko Couple

KOSCIUSKO,Miss. (WCBI)—Hearts are heavy for the City of Kosciusko after an overnight house fire claims the lives of Mr. Henry Hunter Jordan Jr and Mrs. Ann Firestone Jordan.

Kosciusko will never be the same. The entire city is mourning the lose of two beloved residents.

“It will be a tremendous lose to the whole community,” said Kosciusko Mayor Jimmy Cockroft.

The city of Kosciusko is in a state of shock after losing long time residents.

“I got the call early this morning that the house was on fire and so I went over their just because they were family friends… dear friends… so I went and at the time didn’t know much just that the house was on fire,”said Cockroft.

This is what is left of the Jordan’s house here on Highland Drive. It took Firefighters 10 to control the blaze.
” When we arrived on scene we knew the cars were in the drive way. Some neighbors said they could not account for them. So we suspected they were in the structure. At the same time we began the fire fighting operation we also had to begin the search and rescue operations,”said Kosciusko Fire Chief Duane Burdine.
Right now fire investigators are focusing on a bedroom area of the home in the effort to find out the cause. Meanwhile the citizens are remembering a name linked to Kosciusko for decades.
“The Jordan family has a long history in Kosciusko. Henry’s father Mr. Hunter Jordan and I guess back before that started a funeral home here and Jordan Family Funeral home has impacted tremendous amount of people through the death and loved ones for years. The family operates a little flea market type store in down town. Henry and Ann were just community pillars,”said Cockroft.

Now a city will cope with losing two of its most prominent citizens

“They were beloved members of this community they’ve been here as long I’ve been here for 46 years and they’ve been here my whole life and it’s just been hard on everybody,”said Burdine.

The funeral Arrangements for the Jordans have not been finalized yet.
