VIDEO: Inaugural Healthy Living For Senior Expo

COLUMBUS, Miss. (WCBI) – Hundreds of seniors get valuable information on health and wellness.

WCBI held its first “Healthy Living Senior Expo” Wednesday, September 27, at Leigh Mall in Columbus.

The hundreds of seniors who attended Wednesday’s healthy living expo got valuable information on the typical health topics like diet, exercise, and managing illnesses. One important lesson came from the staff at Huxford Pulmonary Sleep Clinic: the importance of getting the proper rest.

“We offer an on sight PFT machine. We also offer an X-ray machine on sight. You don’t have to really go to the hospital to have these things done anymore. We offer them there in the clinic,” says Quinette Williams.

Williams says she hopes seniors will see the value in a visit to their office.

“We just need to get out there and promote. Everybody needs a sleep study done. Everyone needs to be checked for CPD asthma issues. The weather is changing so everything just needs to be up to par,” says Williams.

Dalton Anthony says he picked up plenty of information to help him at home.

“For someone my age and moving on into my latter years, it’s a great experience. It give, not only people of my age but the vendors an opportunity to get out an talk to us instead of us having to go seek them out,” said Anthony.

It was one-stop shopping for health information. The Expo featured more than 4 dozen vendors from all over North East Mississippi and West Alabama.

“This being our first heath fair we weren’t really sure what to expect and we’re just very very happy it all went off very very well,” said WCBI General Manager Derek Rogers.

“It’s been a great day. We have so many people now that are scheduling appointments with us and more concerned about their health than anything now,” said Williams.

WCBI was able to give away a lift recliner chair from Rick’s furniture.
