Video: Kids use recyclables to build art

LEE COUNTY, Miss. (WCBI)- The summer reading program at the Lee County Library ended with a unique art project.

This summer they featured “Upcycling Art Projects,” or items that most people throw away and turn them into art.

Friday participants turned water bottled into a sculpture. Organizers say they hope the youngsters get a lot out of the summer program.

“I hope they’ll realize that anyone can be an artist and that art is all around you. You don’t have to have the most expensive supplies. You can use things you already have on hand and I also hope they will be curious about the artists we have learned about and art forms we learned about and go find out more about them on their own,” said Youth Services Asst. Maddie Ludt.

Other projects included making mixed media collages and yarn bombs.

The library will feature many programs for youngsters in the fall.
