VIDEO: Lamar County Area Special Olympics

VERNON, Ala. (WCBI) – It’s a special day for students who live in Lamar County.

The area’s annual Special Olympics kicked off Friday Morning with students from; South Lamar, Lamar County, and Sulligent .

Students got to play on inflatable, sack race, and wrecking ball wars.

Parent and Event Emcee Jeff Chaffin says it’s a time of year when the students get to get out and enjoy their friends.

“It’s incredibly important for us to share in these moments with these kids, for these students. Being a parent of special needs children my self, I know that they don’t have the opportunity, on a routine basis to have what would be considered a regular day. This is a time they can be awarded for their efforts”

South Lamar, Lamar County, and Sulligent alternate years to host the event.
