JACKSON, MS (WCBI) – House lawmakers pass a bill to increase education funding, but it won’t be enough to pay for the Mississippi Adequate Education Program. The legislation increases funding by 25 point six million dollars over current funding. Most of the increase is set aside for teacher pay raises. However, the two point one billion dollar price tag is well short of the two point seven billion requested by the department of education.

Education advocates say MAEP should be fully funded. The measure moves on to the Senate for more debate.
