TUPELO, Miss. (WCBI) — Tupelo’s Veterans Memorial Park was the venue for the annual Memorial Day tribute. Hundreds of Lee County residents paid their respects to the men and women who have given their lives for their country. Guest speakers reminded the crowd what is behind the flag they see displayed daily.

“To respect the flag which is the symbol of those that have gone before is the symbol of our country and the freedom we have because those freedoms are so precious and so precious bought,” said retired US Navy Commander, David Neilsen.  “One special day that we should keep honoring and pray for those soldiers and airmen that did give their lives.”

The annual event is sponsored by the City of Tupelo and the American Legion.
