New Hope, Miss. (WCBI) — Christmas time is in the air and many families will celebrate by hanging decorations and lights.

Few families will put up more than the 35,000 plus you’ll see at the Garrett home on Oswalt Road.

As part of the Garrett Family Christmas Spectacle, you and your family can drive up, put on FM 101.5, and watch an animated Christmas light show that is synced with the music.

“You never know what is going to pop up next…”, said mastermind behind it all Carl Garrett, “…could be Santa, could be an elf, could be a snowman, whatever goes with the music.”

This will be the 6th year Garrett has put on the light show.

The show began on Thanksgiving night and runs every single day until New Year’s Eve. The show starts at 5:30 PM.

Visitors have the chance to be a part of Monday’s Nostalgia Night, which plays music from the 1940’s and 1950’s. Every other night is contemporary music that will appeals to everyone.

“I would get on my bike as a little guy and ride around the neighborhoods staring at Christmas lights…”, said Garrett, “…it fascinates me.”

Garrett said he has always had a love for music and technology and this is his way to combine both of them while spreading Christmas joy.

“There was this little child, must have been three years old…”, Garrett recalled, “…when the manger scene came on, she screamed out, “Mommy! It’s Baby Jesus!” Oh my gosh, that just made my night and my year…that I could touch a little child like that and bring the magic of Christmas and meaning of it. That’s why we do this.”

When the shows are over, that’s not the end of preparing for Garrett. He said the first 3 months after are for buying and improving the equipment he uses, and the next 3 months is for planning the music and programming the lights.

He said one song can take up to 40 hours to program.

Garrett also said he hopes the light show will inspire the younger generation to keep up the Christmas spirit.

The light show also has a Facebook page, titled “Garrett Family Christmas Spectacular”. It has received around 600 likes in 2 weeks.
