VIDEO: Lightning Causes Fire

LOWNDES CO., Miss. (WCBI) – A lightning strike is believed to be the cause of a garage fire Saturday night in Lowndes County.

The fire was reported just after 8 P.M. on 260 Butler Road in the New Hope Community.

A fire crew worked for more than three hours to extinguish the flames.

Paul Butler, the homeowner’s son, says he believes the fire had to be weather-related because he could not think of anything inside that would have sparked the fire.

Paul says his father lost a fishing boat, a lawnmower, and a tractor. A damage estimate is not known.
