TUPELO, MISS. (WCBI) — It was an opportunity for area supporters of the Boys and Girls Club of North Mississippi to meet those who will be working extra hard as part of a major fundraiser for the organization.

In August, the Boys and Girls Club will host “Dance Like the Stars,” a dancing contest which is also the largest annual fundraiser for the non profit.

This evening, it was a chance to “Greet the Dancers” as the lineup of 11 contestants was announced on the rooftop of Tupelo’s Park Heights Restaurant.

A $20,000  donation was given to the club by Toyota . Organizers say the fundraiser is especially helpful this time of year.

“So, everybody knows we have our summer program going on right now so we are open longer, more staff there working so our costs are more so all the donations that are coming in during this time of year are specifically assisting that program,” said Evie Boyd, of the Boys and Girls Club of North Mississippi.

Among the contestants is WCBI’s Alyssa Martin. Each dancer commits to raise money for the Boys and Girls Club and they also have to take 25 dance lessons.  The event is set for August 16 at the Bancorpsouth Arena.  For ticket information, go to www.bgcnms.org
