OKTIBBEHA COUNTY, Miss. (WCBI) – When an emergency strikes, first responders have to rely on two things: Training and Equipment.

On Friday firefighters with the Oktibbeha County Volunteer Fire Departments were putting their trucks to the test.

Volunteers spent the day making sure their pumps are in top operating condition.

“We’re here drafting today. In other words, sucking water out of a pool, and shooting it through the gun, and measuring the flow by three different methods to make sure we are doing it right, to certify that the vehicle is ready for firefighting.”

In case you’re wondering, the standard for the pumps is 1,ooo gallons per minute at 150 psi.

Departments are required to perform yearly tests on each pump.
