COLUMBUS, Miss. (WCBI) -One interesting race to watch in the Tuesday party primaries will be for the state House District 41 seat.

The only name on the primary ballot is Democratic Candidate and Columbus councilman Kabir Karriem.

But two other candidates are running write-in campaigns.

Former municipal judge Nicole Clinkscales and local nurse Tiffany Sturdivant have publicly announced write-in campaigns.

The provision is used when a candidate dies after a qualifying deadline and ballots have already been printed.

The space for a write in name is always on the last line of candidates in a race.

This time votes will legally be counted if the candidates are viable.[TAKE SOT]

“But actually its opened up for anyone to write in any body’s name in. And then it will be determined after those votes are legally counted as to wether or not the person is eligible to hold the office.”

A resolution board helps determine the viability of names submitted.
